Broadcast Pioneers member Nat Wright worked at WIP Radio for decades. When he first came to Philadelphia, he had split duties working some days as a disc jockey air personality and other days as a newscaster.
We have in our archives, an audio clip of Nat Wright from Wednesday, July 14, 1965. It's 3:30 pm and time for the WIP News. However, on that day, former Presidential candidate and former United Nations Ambassador Adlai Stevenson died in London. WIP was taking the newscasts on the half-hour and devoting them to coverage about Stevenson's death. The top of the hour news had a variety of stories.
By the way, at the time of Stevenson's death, he was walking the London streets with Philadelphia socialite Marietta Peabody Tree who wrote:
We walked around the neighborhood a little bit... where he had lived with his family at the end of the War. There was now an apartment house and he said that makes me feel so old. ...As we were walking along the street, he said, do not walk quite so fast... I was burrowing ahead trying to get to the park as quickly as possible and then the next thing I knew, I turned around and I saw he'd gone white, gray really, and he fell....
