Mike started in the business at WXYZ in Detroit, Michigan where he produced the weekend newscasts. Then he moved to WABC-TV where, at the age of 25, he produced the 11 pm newscast in the nation's number one market. It was there where he met Broadcast Pioneers member Larry Kane (then anchoring in NYC) and Larry convinced Mike to join WCAU-TV upon Kane's return to the Philadelphia market.

Michael Archer worked at Channel Ten, WCAU-TV from 1979 to 1990. Archer at TV 10 launched our market's first 5 pm newscast. At the time of the MOVE bombing on Osage Avenue, he was the station's Executive Producer. That was 1985 and the station at that time was an owned and operated outlet of CBS.

From there, Michael went back to the Big Apple, New York City to help launch Court TV. He was a Senior Producer and then Executive Editor from 1991 to 1996. It was Michael who oversaw the live coverage of the O.J. Simpson Trial, the coverage of the police accused in the Rodney King beating in Los Angeles and the confirmation hearings of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

From there, Michael Archer to WWOR, also in New York City. At that station, he was the Executive Producer of the station's I-Team."

In 2001, Michael joined KYW-TV, CBS 3 here in Philly as the Executive Producer of the 11 pm "Eyewitness News" cast. A year later, he became Managing Editor. He retired in of June 2015.
