United States Senator Jim Bunning (who pitched a perfect game for the Phils) said: "A truly great all-time pitcher and Hall of Famer in baseball, but even more, a great human being who I will miss dearly." That in a nutshell was Robin Roberts.
Robin Evan Roberts was born in Springfield, Illinois on September 30, 1926. He pitched right handed and was a switch hitter. His first major league game was for the Philadelphia Phillies on June 18, 1948. He stayed with the Phils until 1961. He also played with the Yankees, Orioles, Astros and Cubs.

He died on Thursday, May 6, 2010 in Florida. Around the USA, most people think of Roberts as a baseball player, but he was so much more. He became a sportscaster like his former teammate Richie Ashburn.
Roberts did sports on WPEN radio during the Bob Menefee morning program and during afternoon drive with John Lang. He was on at 7:30 am, 8:30 am, 4:30 pm and 5:30 pm. A WPEN handout said:

Mike Schmidt said of Robin Roberts: "Anyone who knew Robin, or had a chance to work with him in any way, knows what kind of a man he was."
